Your wallet should work without us.

Self-custody only matters if the company behind the wallet is not required for you to keep owning your money.

Self-custodial. Nuri does not take custody of your Bitcoin or stablecoins.
Passkey secured. Your passkey is used to derive and protect wallet access.
No seed phrase in normal use. No twelve words to write down before you can start.
Multisig and co-signing. Security is designed around more than one path instead of one company-held key.
KYC-free self-custody. Identity verification belongs to regulated card and banking services, not to the right to hold your own money.
Open source. Wallet and recovery tooling can be inspected and independently used.
Read more about how recovery works

Nuri's current recovery design uses a passkey PRF, co-signing paths and time-based recovery so the user key remains the durable key. The published recovery design is intended to work offline without nuri.com or Nuri servers, provided the user still has the required passkey and recovery material.

Wallet first. Services second.

The wallet is the durable product. Card, banking and local payment providers are replaceable ways to use it.

The part that should not depend on a bank

Bitcoin & Lightning. Stablecoins. Keys. Passkeys. Self-custody. Swaps. Global peer-to-peer payments.

The part that depends on where you live

Visa. IBAN. ACH. Mobile Money. Local currency access. KYC and provider eligibility where regulation requires it.

One name. Two stories. A clear fork.

Nuri has history. We think trust starts by explaining it clearly instead of hiding it.

2014
Bitwala starts in Berlin with the idea of making Bitcoin useful in everyday life.
2021
Bitwala is rebranded as Nuri and grows into a broader crypto-finance product.
2022
The former Nuri company files for insolvency. Bitwala's own history says the Celsius insolvency intensified the company's financial problems.
2023
The original founders relaunch their business under the Bitwala name.
2025 — THE FORK
Bitwala publicly announces that the Nuri brand and nuri.com are moving to new ownership. From this point forward, Bitwala and the new Nuri are independent products, companies and teams.
2025 →
The new Nuri is built around a different principle: self-custody first, with replaceable card, banking and local payment rails around the wallet.
Today
Nuri is operated by Nurisoft Development OÜ in Tallinn and is run by Emin Mahrt and the Nuri team. Bitwala continues separately under its own brand and team.

For people. For AI.

The same wallet can be used by you directly or through software you authorize. AI can prepare and operate within permissions; the user remains in control of the wallet and approvals.

Read more about agent access

Nuri exposes wallet and payment capabilities through machine-readable interfaces and agent tooling. The goal is not to give an agent unrestricted custody, but to let software work inside explicit permissions.
